Celebrating Children's Day in the Classroom

Día del Niño, or Children's Day, is a widely celebrated holiday in Mexico and many Latin American countries, typically observed on April 30th. It is a day dedicated to honoring children, emphasizing their well-being, and simply letting them enjoy being kids.

In a school setting, teachers often organize special activities, games, and treats rather than regular lessons. Our celebration pages capture this joyful atmosphere, giving students a fun activity to complete between games. You can easily pair these sheets with lessons during Hispanic Heritage Month to discuss cultural traditions.

Traditional Toys and Festive Treats

The illustrations include several cultural elements that make this holiday distinct. You will spot children playing with a balero, a traditional wooden cup-and-ball toy, as well as spinning tops.

Food also plays a big role in the festivities. Kids can color a Mexican fruit paleta or scenes of friends sharing ice cream treats. For a complete party vibe, the piñata and fiesta section features children gathering candies and shaking maracas.

Using the Greeting Pages

The pages with large Spanish lettering work well as classroom decorations or personalized cards for the students.

  • Print the greeting designs on heavy cardstock so kids can paint them or use markers without bleeding.
  • Have students color the decorative papel picado banners to string across the room.
  • Use the finished coloring sheets as placemats for your classroom party.
