Understanding the Bowling Lane

When coloring these sheets, it helps to know the parts of a sports venue like the bowling alley. The playing surface is called the lane, which is usually made of polished wood or synthetic materials. At the end of the lane sits the pin deck, where the ten pins are arranged in a triangle. The gutters run along both sides to catch wayward shots.

Before the lane begins, bowlers stand on the approach area and must release the ball before crossing the foul line. Adding a distinct color to the foul line helps separate the player's space from the oiled lane. You can use light browns and yellows for the wooden lanes, and contrasting dark colors for the gutters.

Adding Color to Bowling Equipment

Bowling balls come in almost every color and pattern imaginable. In the bowling ball section, kids can use bright swirls, sparkles, or solid neon colors to decorate the heavy spheres. A standard bowling ball has three finger holes, which should be colored black to show depth. The pins are traditionally white with two red stripes around the neck, but colorists can design their own custom pin variations.

Do not forget the special footwear found at the shoe rental counter. Bowling shoes often feature split colors, making them fun to fill in with contrasting shades. In the bowling alley scenes, you will also spot the ball return machine, which brings the equipment back to the players. These machines often have metallic or bright plastic finishes.

Bowling Activity Sheets for Kids

These printables work well for birthday parties at the alley or as a quiet activity after playing outside. Teachers can use the sheets showing the ten-pin setup to help young students practice counting and basic subtraction as pins are knocked down.

The pages featuring kids using a ramp slide are great for showing inclusive ways to enjoy the game. Children can also draw their own scoreboards or write their names on the lane monitors. Handing out these coloring pages alongside a real game keeps everyone entertained while waiting for their turn to bowl.
