Coloring Realistic King Penguins
King penguins have distinct markings that make them fun to color. Their most famous feature is the bright orange-yellow patches on their upper chest and the sides of their head. The rest of their body features a silvery-gray back and a crisp white belly.
When coloring the realistic king penguins, you can use shades of charcoal or dark gray for their backs instead of solid black to give them a softer, feathered look. Add a touch of light blue to the ice floes to create a cold Antarctic atmosphere.
Fluffy Chicks and Molting Coats
Baby king penguins look very different from their parents. They are covered in thick, brown down feathers, which early explorers once mistook for a completely different species of woolly bird.
In our parents and chicks section, you will find chicks in various stages of growth. Use varying shades of brown and tan to give their coats a textured, fluffy appearance. You can even blend brown and gray where the chicks are starting to molt and grow their adult waterproof feathers.
Fun with Royal Penguins
Because of their name, it is common to imagine these birds as actual royalty. We included a selection of humorous designs where the birds wear royal robes and sit on thrones.
These easy penguin pages are great for younger children who want to use bright purples, reds, and golds for the crowns and capes, contrasting with the natural black and white of the birds.
