Getting to Know the Kiwi Bird
The flightless kiwi is a fascinating creature native to New Zealand. Unlike most birds, they have hair-like feathers, strong legs for running, and a long beak with nostrils at the very tip to sniff out insects. Our kiwi bird pages show them in their natural habitat among fern fronds and rainforest plants. Children can use shades of brown, gray, and tan to color their unique plumage.
Coloring the Fuzzy Fruit
The fuzzy green fruit shares its name with the bird, and many of our sheets playfully combine the two. When coloring the fruit slices, you can use bright, vibrant greens for the flesh and black for the tiny edible seeds. The rough brown skin adds a nice contrast. These pages pair well with our other fruit printables for a healthy food lesson in the classroom. Try these coloring ideas for the fruit sections:
- Use a yellow-green colored pencil for the bright center radiating outward.
- Add dark brown stippling to the outside to mimic the fuzzy skin.
- Leave small white dots near the black seeds for a juicy highlight.
Fun Characters for Kids
Younger children will enjoy the cute kiwi characters doing everyday activities. From a chick hatching out of an egg to a small bird carrying a backpack, these designs have bold, simple lines. You can encourage kids to get creative by adding bright colors to the backpacks, flower crowns, and puddle splashes. If your students enjoy these unique animals, they might also like our general bird collection for more avian art.
