From Norway Rats to Naked Mole Rats

Rats are highly intelligent and social animals. While the common Norway rat is often found near rivers or cities, many people keep fancy rats as affectionate indoor pets. Our realistic rat designs show these rodents in their natural environments, grooming or climbing branches.

We also included the unique naked mole rat, a burrowing mammal that lives in complex underground colonies led by a queen. These hairless creatures are fascinating subjects for school science projects and nature studies.

Shading Fur and Underground Tunnels

When coloring realistic rodents, try color layering with different shades of gray, brown, and black to create texture in their coats. For the hairless mole rats, use pale pinks and light purples, adding darker shading around their wrinkles.

If you are working on the hot rod racing rats, bright cherry reds and metallic silvers make the cars stand out against the dark asphalt and exhaust smoke.

Choosing the Right Picture for Your Skill Level

Young children usually prefer the friendly cartoon characters, like the little chef or the rat holding a piece of cheese. These pages have thick lines and simple backgrounds that are easy to fill with crayons.

Older kids and adult colorists might enjoy the challenge of our mandala and floral patterns. These detailed designs require fine-tipped markers or sharp colored pencils to fill in the tiny geometric shapes. You can also mix these with our zentangle pages for a relaxing afternoon of intricate coloring.
