Learning About Indiana State Symbols

Teaching kids about the Hoosier State is easier with visual activities. Our state symbol pages include the official flag, which features a golden torch representing liberty and enlightenment, surrounded by 19 stars. You will also find the state bird, the northern cardinal, often pictured resting on the branches of a tulip tree, Indiana's state tree.

The official state seal depicts a pioneer chopping a tree while a buffalo runs in the background, offering a glimpse into the region's early history. These sheets are excellent resources for fourth-grade state history projects or general geography lessons.

Landscapes and Agriculture

Indiana is known for its diverse landscapes, from the sandy shores of the Indiana Dunes in the north to the rolling hills in the south. Colorists can enjoy scenes of historic wooden covered bridges that dot the countryside.

Agriculture also plays a massive role in the state's identity. Fields of sweet corn and blooming peonies provide beautiful, natural subjects for both kids and adults to color. The detailed state maps help students memorize the shape of the state and its location in the Midwest.
