Coloring the Savannah

When coloring these big cats, you can experiment with different shades of yellow, gold, and brown. A male lion's mane often features darker colors, including deep rust, black, or dark brown, which contrast with their lighter coats. For the backgrounds in our realistic savannah scenes, try adding dusty oranges for the dirt and pale greens for the tall grass. Adding a blue sky or a setting sun can make the picture stand out. You can also explore our tiger coloring pages for more large feline habitats.

Choosing the Right Page for Your Age Group

We organized these printables to suit different skill levels. Young artists usually prefer pages with thick lines and open spaces, while experienced colorists often look for intricate details.

  • Toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy the simple, smiling faces in our playful cubs section.
  • Older children can practice shading on the semi-realistic animals resting under acacia trees or near a watering hole.
  • Adults and teens looking for a relaxing challenge can work on the intricate mandala patterns framing several of the majestic portraits.

Learning About Prides

Lions are the only truly social cats, living in family groups called a pride. You will find several sheets showing a mother lioness caring for her young or grooming under a blossom tree. These group scenes offer a great opportunity to talk with children about animal families, hunting habits, and teamwork in the wild while they color. If you want to color more wild animals from similar environments, check out our elephant printables.
