The Story of the Twelve Spies

The account in the Book of Numbers describes Moses sending twelve men to scout the land of Canaan. After forty days, they returned to the camp at Kadesh Barnea. While ten spies brought back a fearful report about fortified cities and giants, Joshua and Caleb remained confident. They trusted the divine promise and urged the Israelites to move forward. Our report illustrations capture this tense moment of decision.

The Giant Grapes of Eshcol

The most recognizable symbol of this Bible story is the massive cluster of grapes the scouts brought back. To prove the fertility of the land, they cut a single branch in the Valley of Eshcol that was so heavy it took two men to carry it on a pole between their shoulders.

  • Coloring the heavy fruit: Use rich purples, deep reds, and vibrant greens for the harvest.
  • Adding texture to the scene: Brown and gray tones work well for the wooden pole and the rocky Canaanite terrain.
  • Historical details: Pay attention to the biblical sandals and tunics worn by the explorers.

Sunday School and Classroom Use

These sheets are helpful visual aids for teaching children about faith and courage. Younger students usually enjoy coloring the oversized fruit and the baskets, while older kids can handle the detailed scenes of the men surveying the walled cities. You can pair these printables with lessons about Moses leading the people or discussions on the fruits of the spirit to expand the classroom activity.

Coloring Ancient Artifacts

Some of the pages feature still lifes of ancient objects related to the journey. You will find a clay water pitcher, a traditional shofar horn resting on stone, and a rolled parchment scroll. These elements offer a quiet coloring experience for adults or older students. Using earth tones, terracotta, and soft yellows will give these historical items an authentic, weathered appearance.
