Using these designs as wearable crafts
Many of these pages work beautifully as a printable masquerade mask template. Print the design on heavy cardstock so the mask holds its shape. After coloring, carefully cut along the outer edges and remove the eye holes. You can attach a wooden dowel to one side to hold the mask up, or punch small holes on the sides to thread a silk ribbon through for tying around the head.
Traditional Venetian mask styles
The designs in our full-face section draw inspiration from historical Italian festivals. You will find the classic Bauta mask, which historically covered the entire face and featured a prominent chin line to allow the wearer to eat and speak easily. We also included traditional jester masks with their signature multi-pointed collars and bells.
Coloring tips for intricate masks
For the highly detailed intricate designs, adult colorists often prefer fine-tipped markers or sharp colored pencils. Metallic gel pens are excellent for highlighting the filigree patterns and beadwork on the eye masks.
- Use gold or silver accents to mimic the look of a traditional carnival mask.
- Blend bright jewel tones like emerald and sapphire on the tall feathers.
- Leave the base of the mask white while heavily coloring the raised decorative elements.
