Coloring Botanical Violets

Violets are known for their rich, deep colors, but these small plants actually bloom in many different shades. When coloring the pages in our violet flowers section, you can use classic purple hues, soft lavenders, bright yellows, and even crisp whites. The familiar African violet often features fuzzy, dark green leaves that look great when shaded with colored pencils to create a soft texture.

Notice how the common violet has five distinctive petals, which you can highlight with contrasting colors. For the petals, try blending a dark blue-violet at the center and fading to a lighter shade near the edges. If you enjoy shading realistic plants, you might also like our realistic flower pages.

Wild Violets in Nature Scenes

Our wild violets collection shows these hardy little plants in their natural environment. You will find them growing beside stones, under trees, and along garden paths. These scenes give you a chance to practice coloring woodland backgrounds and natural elements like soil, bark, and morning dew.

Adding a touch of yellow to the center of each wild violet helps the small blooms stand out against the earthy greens and browns of the forest floor. Several pages feature friendly honeybees and songbirds interacting with the plants, adding life to your garden pictures. You can explore similar nature scenes in our wild flower printables.

Using These Pages at Home and School

These floral sheets work well for spring botany lessons or quiet afternoon activities. Teachers can use the simpler outlines to help young students identify spring blooms and basic plant parts like stems, leaves, and petals. The more intricate designs, such as the violet mandala, provide a relaxing challenge for older students and adults.

Because violets are the traditional birth flower for February, these pages also make thoughtful handmade cards for winter birthdays. You can easily combine these sheets with our flower petal templates to create a larger garden display on a classroom bulletin board.
