Coloring the Jamaican Flag

The Jamaican flag is unique because it is the only national flag in the world that does not contain the colors red, white, or blue. Instead, it features a striking gold diagonal cross (a saltire) that divides the flag into four triangles. The top and bottom triangles are green, representing the island's lush vegetation and agriculture.

The side triangles are black, symbolizing the strength and creativity of the people. When coloring these pages, use bright, bold shades of yellow-gold, emerald green, and deep black to capture the true spirit of the nation.

National Symbols and Island Nature

Jamaica is home to incredible flora and fauna, many of which serve as official national symbols. The doctor bird, a type of swallow-tail hummingbird found nowhere else on earth, is the national bird. You can find it hovering over tropical blooms in our culture section. The national flower is the pale blue Lignum Vitae, and the national tree is the Blue Mahoe.

For a fun educational activity, pair the Jamaica map pages with our geography printables to help students locate the island in the Caribbean Sea. You can also color the national fruit, the ackee, which is often cooked with saltfish for a traditional breakfast. Students can learn about tropical agriculture by coloring the breadfruit crates and local wildlife like the sea turtles swimming over the coral reefs.

Reggae Music and Caribbean Culture

Music is a massive part of Jamaican identity, especially reggae and ska. The illustrations of musicians with acoustic guitars and steel drums celebrate this rich musical heritage. These pages are great for adult colorists who want to relax with island vibes, or for teachers introducing Caribbean history.

Add extra details to the beach scenes by coloring the surrounding tropical plants and coral reefs, bringing the warm, sunny atmosphere of the island right to your table. The scenes of families walking along the shore or enjoying a vacation provide a relaxing canvas for blending ocean blues and sandy tans.
