Understanding the Philippine Flag
When coloring the Philippine flag, students can learn about its unique historical symbolism. The flag features a white equilateral triangle at the hoist, representing liberty and equality. Inside the triangle is a golden-yellow sun with eight primary rays, which stand for the first eight provinces that sought independence.
The three five-pointed stars represent the three major island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The upper band is royal blue for peace and justice, while the lower band is scarlet red for patriotism. Interestingly, this flag is flown upside down with the red band on top during times of war.
Iconic Wildlife and Landscapes
The archipelago is home to incredible biodiversity and stunning landscapes. Our wildlife pages feature the Philippine eagle, one of the largest and most powerful birds of prey in the world. Often called the monkey-eating eagle, it is the national bird and is critically endangered.
You will also find scenes featuring the perfectly cone-shaped Mayon Volcano. These sheets pair well with other geography coloring pages to help children visualize different environments and natural landmarks across the globe.
Jeepneys and Filipino Culture
A major highlight of these printables is the classic jeepney. Originally made from leftover US military jeeps after World War II, these vehicles are now the most popular means of public transportation in the country. They are famous for their flamboyant decoration and crowded seating. Kids can use the brightest markers and crayons they have to capture their flashy, customized designs.
You can also explore cultural traditions through pages showing children wearing the Barong Tagalog and Baro't Saya, or the local sorbetes vendor selling ice cream on the street. These images provide a great starting point for discussing daily life in Southeast Asia.
