Coloring the Architecture of the Floating City
Venice is famous for its intricate buildings that rise directly from the water. When coloring the classic canal scenes, you will notice the distinct Gothic and Renaissance architecture. The facades often feature arched windows, balconies, and exposed brickwork. Using shades of terracotta, ochre, and pale pink can help capture the traditional look of these historic structures. For the water, blend different blues and greens to reflect the buildings and the sky above the cityscapes. Be sure to add texture to the stone bridges that connect the narrow pedestrian walkways.
Details of the Venetian Gondola
The traditional Venetian boat is highly standardized in its design. While the hull is traditionally painted black, the interior often features rich red upholstery. The front of the boat has a distinctive metal piece called a ferro, which represents the six districts of the city. As you color the gondola pages, pay attention to the gondolier's classic striped shirt and straw hat. You can also add bright colors to the wooden mooring poles, known as paline, which are often painted with diagonal stripes.
Traditional Carnival Attire
The annual festival in Venice is known worldwide for its elaborate disguises. The carnival coloring sheets include several traditional characters. You will find the bauta mask, which covers the whole face, and the distinct plague doctor mask with its long beak. These characters often gather in the famous piazzas of Europe, making them great subjects for detailed coloring. These pages offer a chance to use metallic gel pens or bright markers to decorate the feathers, lace, and silk garments.
- Use gold and silver for the ornate mask borders.
- Try deep purples and emerald greens for the heavy velvet costumes.
- Add bright contrasting colors for the harlequin patterns.
